Day Three - Flock To Fedora 2025

Waking late on June 7th, 2025, I joined workshop sessions on Forgejo Dist Git Implementation by Tomas and Fedora Infra Applications by Aurelien, discussed identity management approaches and Fedora Badges' future, before dancing with Toshio and friends and shopping around Andel with Sumantro.

As the third day of Flock To Fedora 2025 consisted mostly of workshops and discussions in specific teams across the three halls, I could be a lot more specific in what events I really wanted to partake in. I took the liberty of waking up as late as 0700am Central European Summer Time on 07th June 2025, as I did not have any plans for attending those in the first half of the day. I checked with the likes of Sumantro Mukherjee, Ankur Sinha, and Fabian Arrotin before heading downstairs for breakfast at around 0800am Central European Summer Time. Sumantro and I headed for Vienna House Andel Prague anyway in the morning to retrieve his backpack. I struck up a conversation with Aurelien Bompard, who was readying his laptop back for yet another collection of exciting stickers from the community presences we have had through the Flock To Fedora 2025 proceedings.

While a bunch of folks at the event venue were still having their breakfast, the two of us left after having brief conversations with the likes of Robert Wright, Julia Bley, Ant Carroll, and Luis Bazan. Michal Konecny, who was serving booth duty at the time, instructed us to finish any possible shopping in the first half of the day, as independent shops did not stay open for long on Saturdays. Sumantro and I departed soon after to visit some nearby shops and purchase goodies from places named Teta, Rossmann, Douglas, and Mac. We kept rotating among the shops to ensure that we got the best deal for the price we offered, amidst the drizzle that surprised us. Thankfully, as I was carrying a parasol with me, the rain failed to dampen our bodies or spirits. On our way back from the shopping endeavors, Sumantro treated me to Starbucks for some cream latte and double chocolate cookies.

After some respite at our respective hotel rooms for around an hour or so, I departed for Vienna House Andel Prague with him at around 0130pm Central European Summer Time to attend the Forgejo-related workshop titled Dist Git Implementation With Forgejo in the Topaz hall. As Tomas Hrcka was presiding over the event and I was managing the notes, we had to be on top of all the discussions made during the session. We wanted to account for all the findings and opinions shared during the conversations, and that, in turn, would help shape the solution that we would want to propose for the Dist Git implementation. Skipping the lunch seemed to help me quite a lot, as I was able to stay more awake and connected with the proceedings of the ongoing discussion. As the session progressed, we went through a variety of topics, including access control, lookaside cache, proposed timeline, and more.

As Aurelien's workshop was up next in the Opal hall, we had to move over there to be able to support his efforts. I kept jumping in and out of the workshop to help out Justin Wheeler with some medication, as he managed to get a bleeding nose. Following his instructions as well, I decided to grab some tee shirts from Luis at the reception for some contributors from Fedora India who helped make Fedora Hatch Pune India 2022 happen back in the day, before returning back to the workshop. At the tail end of the proceedings, the room was scantily populated, but I could say for sure that the ones who were present there were 100% into Fedora Infrastructure applications and services. Over a cup of coffee with milk, I took the opportunity to discuss affairs around the relevance of the Easyfix project, Fedora Badges revamp project, and more with the attendees and speaker.

I ran into Michael Scherer after stepping out, and this time around we discussed the elephant in the room, the Ipsilon Project, and the long-term maintainability of it. I hinted towards our potential plans to move over to Keycloak at some point in time, but that proposal had to be taken with a huge grain of salt. It was also at around this time I came across Toshio Kuratomi, with whom I caught up on conversations and also shared a dance - which was later joined by Jonathan Wright, Ankur, and Christopher for the rare badge "Dancing With Toshio". Michael helped me with the music and recording, making it quite the eventful way to close the Flock To Fedora 2025 events. For the event, Sumantro and I decided to go around the places near Andel a bit more for some more shopping and call it a day early at around 0830pm Central European Summer Time.
